Hunger Strike
Part 5

Carson managed to make it to the bathroom before he lost it entirely. His hands gripped the edge of the toilet as he lost what meager contents his stomach held. He sat back once the retching subsided, willing his stomach to comply.

The past few days had been more trying that he cared to let on. He was the chief medical officer, first and foremost. It was his duty to take care of the staff. But he couldn’t deny that being the boyfriend in all this was making his job all the more difficult.

He slumped down against the wall, placing his head in his hands. “My god,” he whispered. His head was throbbing and his entire body ached. If it was anyone else, he’d have ordered them to rest, but he wasn’t. And he couldn’t rest. Not until all this was over.

Whatever was wrong with Laura, whatever Michael had done to her, he had to find a way to undo it. If he wasn’t turning her into a Wraith, then what the hell was he doing to her? And when Carson thought about what Michael had done… He lurched back over the toilet and began gagging.

He was tired, so very bloody tired. He needed rest, but he needed answers first. There had to be more to her condition than he could see. Something that wouldn’t show up on regular blood work. Carson quickly worked through all the information he knew about the Wraith, the Iratus bug, and the retrovirus, but he was coming up empty. Laura wasn’t becoming a bug, thank God for that!, and she wasn’t becoming a Wraith either, so what the hell was it!

Carson let out a small sob as he rested his head against the cool surface of the toilet seat. There was no way of knowing what sort of experiments Michael was running, and that’s what frightened him the most. But seeing Laura suffer because of his ambitions, well that hurt more than he could ever have imagined.

He coughed one more time as his stomach rebelled again. He took long deep breaths, trying to stave off any further attacks. Carson yawned, cradling his head in his arms around the toilet seat. He was going to have to get some sleep, one way or another…..

There was movement in the stall, and he sensed he wasn’t alone any longer. That’s when he felt a hand on his shoulder, rubbing his arm.

“You’ve got to stop working like this Carson, you’re going to kill yourself.”

Carson shot his head up, his eyes wide, “Laura! What the bloody hell are you doing here?”

Laura laughed and shook her head, “What do you mean, silly!” She playfully punched his arm, “You told me to wake you if you were still asleep when I got back.”

Carson was stunned, and then looked down, noticing that he was no longer curled around the toilet in the bathroom, but lying in his bed. Naked. And Laura was sitting next to him in a sports bra and shorts, her hair pulled back in a ponytail.

He remembered this. She had gone for her morning run and then she came back… but that was weeks ago. What the hell? “Laura, what’s going on?”

Laura shook her head, “Carson, I think you drank too much of that Athosian wine last night.” She crawled onto the bed, pushing him over to one side so she could slide under the covers. Laura wrapped her arms around him, and gave him a quick kiss on the nose before snuggling down next to him, “There, that’s better isn’t it?”

“Aye.” Carson shook his head in agreement, but he wasn’t sure what he was agreeing too. He pulled her closer, wrapping his arms around her. Something was wrong, very wrong.

“So, is she okay now?” Colonel Sheppard eyed Lt. Cadman warily. She was sleeping, or appeared to be. Dr. Keller had arrived just in time to sedate her and drag her back down to the bed. And he sure as hell didn’t like admitting the affect Cadman was having on him. But it seemed to be subsiding, and the attraction was fading, making the situation all the more uncomfortable.

“For the moment,” Dr. Keller continued to study the monitors. “I’m going to run some more tests to see if we can find out more, but in the meantime, I think it’s best we keep her sedated.”

“Yeah, I agree.” Wholeheartedly, he agreed. Until Beckett could figure out what was going on, Lt. Cadman needed to be controlled. Whatever plans Michael had, they were going to have to figure out on their own.

“Laura, love?” Carson cleared his throat, as he ran his fingers through her hair.

“Hmmm?” Her voice was drowsy and relaxed. She was almost asleep.

“What’s happening to you? How can I help you?”

“Carson, I’m tired. Can we talk about this later?” Laura’s voice slurred as she began to drift asleep.

He nodded silently, hugging her tightly as he planted a kiss atop her head. “Aye, later.”

The sound of the gate coming to life filled the control room. The technicians watched as the wormhole stabilized, “Dr. Weir, report to the gateroom immediately.”

Dr. Weir appeared a moment later, followed by Sheppard and McKay. “Report.”

“We have a gate activation, but no IDC.”

“Are there any teams off-world?” Elizabeth asked.

“Two. But neither is due to check in for hours.” The technician looked back towards the terminal, “We’re receiving a data signal.”

Elizabeth looked at John, then back to the technician, “On screen.”

The computer screen flickered and then a message began to emerge, one keystroke at a time….

Knock, knock....
Can Dr. Beckett come out to play?

John and Elizabeth exchanged glances, and then turned back to the screen as they spoke in unison, “Micheal.”

“Should we respond?” The technician looked between them.

“No, shut it down. Shut it down now!” Elizabeth turned to walk away when McKay jumped forward. “No, no, no! Elizabeth, wait!”

The technician held his hand over the disconnect switch, looking between the two, waiting for a final approval.

“Rodney, we can’t afford to have Michael on our hands right now. You know that.”

“I know, I know. It’s just that he might actually tell us what he did to Cadman. He’s the only one who knows for sure.”

“He’s right Elizabeth. I think it’s worth the risk.” John stepped forward, “We’ve got to end this with him once and for all. Whatever he knows, we need to know. Let’s at least hear what he has to say.”

Laura sighed in contentment. She was warm, comfortable and very happy. She opened her eyes, rubbing her hand across the warm chest beside her. She smiled as he began to mumble in his sleep and she sat up on one arm. “Come on sleepyhead, time to wake up,” she whispered in his ear.

Carson was just waking up when he felt her hand brush across his chest. He mumbled her name, then felt her warm breath in his ear. He smiled as he opened his eyes, staring back into hers, “Morning lass.”

“Hey yourself.” Laura leaned in to capture his lips in a gentle kiss. “It’s time to get up.”

He moaned, giving a slight pout, “I’d rather stay here.”

Laura couldn’t help but laugh at the pitiful face he was tossing her, “So would I, believe me. But…” Laura slipped over him, straddling his chest, “There is work to be done. You have lives to save. And I have unexplored worlds to… well, to explore!”

“Ah!” Carson began, a twinkle in his eye, “So you are going off-world today now are ye, lass? I suppose you’ll be needin’ a pre-mission physical before ye can be cleared for gate travel.”

“And are you offering to give me that physical, good doctor?” Laura smiled, placing her hands on the mattress as she slid her body down his, until she was prone against his form.

“I suppose it could be arranged.” Carson ran his hands down her back, allowing the sheet to slide down to Laura’s waist. She leaned in and captured his lips. He let out a small moan as she began to press her body against his, working one leg between his own; his morning hard-on brushing against her thigh. Laura broke their kiss momentarily, “Well hello Dr. Beckett.” Laura grinned as she slid a hand down between them, recapturing his lips as she began to slide her fingers along his shaft.

Carson let out a deep moan, bringing his hands up to her face as they kissed. Laura pulled back, her hand pumping faster, “Tell me what you want, Carson. Tell me what you really need.”

“You, lass. Just you. You are all I need. Oh Christ, Laura!” Carson pressed his head back into the pillow as she worked him with her hands.

Laura stroked him harder, faster. She could feel the sticky precum mingling with the sweat of her hands, he was getting closer. “Do you love me, Carson?”

“Yes, god yes. I love ye Laura, more than anything.”

She felt her pulse quicken with his words, and she released him, abruptly sliding her own body over his. With a few bucks of his hips, he was inside her and Laura shuddered in delight as he grasped her hips. A few quick thrusts and Laura climaxed quickly, crying out, as she rode out the shockwaves.

Carson took the opportunity and flipped them over on the bed, so he was on top. He’d found that changing positions quickly could cause Laura to have multiple orgasms. And he was not disappointed as he watched her face get swept away once again. She was beautiful when she came and he caressed her cheek for a moment, watching the sated glow that began to come over her.

But his own needs started to take charge and Carson moaned as he climaxed deep inside Laura. He collapsed on top of her, trying to catch his breath. Laura wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tightly, “I love you too, Carson.”

Carson closed his eyes. He was tired and the idea of sleep was inviting. But he was heavy, and he needed to get off Laura. He lifted himself up, ready to move but stopped when he looked at her face. Tears were rolling down her cheeks as she silently cried.

“Laura, what is it? What’s the matter, love?” For a split second he was horrified that might have hurt her in some way.

But she simply shook her head, “Nothing, it’s nothing.” She reached up, running her fingers through his dark hair, “Promise me something, please?”

“Of course.”

“Promise me you’ll always remember me like this. That you’ll still love me no matter what happens.”

“Laura, what do ye mean. What do ye think is going to happen?”

She cried more, gripping his head, “Promise me, please!”

“I promise, love. I promise.” He wrapped his arms around her, “I will always love you. Always.”

“Isn’t that touching.” A deep voice rumbled from the corner of the room, “A fitting end to two star-crossed lovers.”

Carson jerked his head up, staring at the figure near the doorway. “Michael.”
